There are forms of courage we talk about, and then there are the forms that live quietly
in the spaces between someone’s choices.
Veterans understand the second kind.
They carry a weight most will never see.
Not because they’re asked to,
but because they’re built to.
Discipline in their bones.
Loyalty wired into every decision.
A sense of duty that doesn’t need applause
to mean something.
On days like this, we try to find the right words.
But how do you summarize the kind of character
that leaves home with no guarantee of coming back the same?
How do you capture the depth of a commitment
that reshapes entire families, quietly, permanently, in ways almost impossible to quantify?
Veterans don’t just serve.
They absorb.
They endure.
They evolve.
And they do it without fanfare.
Today, I want to honor one of them my girls’ father, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Special Forces U.S. Army.
A man whose strength is steady,
whose discipline is almost elemental,
and whose dedication has woven threads of resilience into our daughters’ identities.
They know what real strength looks like
not because of words, but because they watched it…
in the way he stands,
in the way he leads,
in the way he returns quieter than he left
but somehow stronger every time.
Our daughters carry pieces of that:
the determination,
the grit,
the calm under pressure,
the kind of inner compass you only inherit from someone who’s lived a life of service.
And for that, I am profoundly grateful.
To every veteran, THANK YOU for the choices the world sees, and even more for the sacrifices it never will.
To the LT. Colonel who helped shape the hearts and futures of the two girls I love most, your service isn’t just a chapter in a uniformed life. It is a legacy living through them, quietly and powerfully, every single day.
